Current Group Members
Tim Kowalchik (PhD candidate) I'm Utah born and raised, graduated from the UofU with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. I'm interested in energy harvesting through nanotechnology and applying that to medical devices. I was partway through my Masters when I joined the group as a PhD student, and i'm now working on Self-Charging Power cells.
Anayet Siddique (PhD student) I am from Chittagong, Bangladesh. I did my undergrad from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Dhaka. I worked as an assistant engineer for the BIWTA project of CATS-MIST after completing my undergraduate degree. Later, to pursue my MS, I joined the Mechanical Engineering department at Washington State University Vancouver. During my MS at WSU, I investigated the jet ejection following liquid drop impact on micropillared hydrophilic substrates. My current research as a Ph.D. student focuses on manufacturing porous material that uses nanoscale bubble templates
Jaron Moon (PhD student) I am a Utah native who graduated from the UofU with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduating I decided to continue at the U where I am now pursuing a PhD. I conducted undergraduate research exploring 3D printing of metal material. I am currently conducting research exploring the viability of using local Utah coal in sodium ion batteries.
Brent Edgerton (PhD student) Since getting my undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University (BYU), I have worked at the University of Utah on my research. I am currently working on studying the plating of lithium inside solid-state batteries intended to be used in electric vehicles. I have loved the opportunities I receive and am grateful to fulfill them to the fullest. More specifically, I have worked on micromachining, materials science, simulation, heat transfer, nuclear engineering, satellite engineering, and entrepreneurship.
